Hair dying advice?

i have never died my hair. it is dark brown. well i really want to do blue or red streaks but not with bleaching or using permanent dye. if i use the semi permanent without bleaching, the color will not show. the bottom line is that i will not bleach or permanently color, but i really want to make the blue or red streaks show, and last for a little while. i am not trying to be too difficult, but i would really appreciate some advice. hair dressers are welcome!

In order to do blue you have to bleach it.

But loreal makes a red for dark hair.

You can get it at any drugstore.

Its called colour rays.

Hope this helps.

How long do you want it.

The only way I know without bleaching (from what my mom has said) is do the almost hairspray color things. They don't have quite that great of color and you have to wash them out all the time but, there's really no other way.

Go to a hair stylist. Tell this information to her before you start. They will give you what you want, don't do this by yourself. Get someone experienced.

It's not going to work. If you're going to enter the world of dyed hair, you need to grow some balls and do it.

If your hair is dark brown, no colors will show (except black), unless you bleach. There's no exceptions to this. None. Seriously.

I highly recommend you go to a salon, because you can easily ruin your hair. I've been dying my hair for 10 years, it's not hard, but I had my mom help me out at first. My hair has been every shade between black and platinum, it has been blue and bright red. There is a lot of room for error if you don't know what you're doing.

If you scared of ruining your hair, and cannot afford a salon, buy some cheap clip-in extensions in crazy colors and see how they look. If you like the look, go to a salon and get it. If you hate it, just unclip the extensions - you've still got your hair.

Even the professionals may have to use bleach. If you're opposed to this, then you're out of luck...

there is no way to do this without bleaching first, even the spray in colors will not show up very well on brown hair.

If you really want to do this you will need to bleach it first, try doing a streak in the back underneath to try it out, then you will only see it when your hair is up.
